DC Just Broke A 69-Year Superman Movie Tradition

The new teaser trailer for 2025"s Superman just broke a 69-year Superman movie trend. The new DCU teaser is full of exciting action, providing first looks at David Corenswet"s Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan"s Lois Lane, Nicolas Hoult"s Lex Luthor, and more. However, the debut of a classic (and adorable) Superman ally in particular is all kinds of exciting.
James Gunn and DC Studios have officially dropped the first teaser trailer for Superman which is set to premiere in July of 2025. Offering a new take on the Man of Steel in a new cinematic DC Universe, there"s so much to be excited about. However, Superman may have been somewhat upstaged by his four-legged ally, who breaks a major Superman tradition with his first-ever live-action movie debut.
The DCU's Superman Trailer Confirms A Superpowered Krypto Will Appear In The Movie Kal-El's Adorable Superdog Close Shown at the beginning of the new teaser, none other than Krypto the Superdog comes running at super-speed when called by a beaten and broken Superman. Taking Kal-El"s cape in his mouth, Krypto is shown later on in the trailer pulling Superman and taking him back home. Wearing his own red cape and a yellow collar, Krypto"s debut is incredibly adorable, and it"s been confirmed by James Gunn that Krypto is based on his own dog named Ozu, both in appearance with a similar breed (and perhaps in mannerisms as well).
In the comics and other media, Krypto is often depicted as a very good and loyal boy. However, it"s been teased by Gunn that Superman"s Krypto may have some growing/training pains, having a "complicated" relationship with Superman at the onset. Either way, this new teaser certainly seems to show Krypto being a very good boy getting Kal-El to safety as the first live-action Kryptonian canine to ever grace the big screen.
Why Krypto's Superman Debut Is A Big Deal For DC & The DC Universe A Major First For Live-Action Superman Movies Custom Image By Karlis Wilde Krypto has been shown on-screen before, having been one of the leads in 2022"s animated League of Super-Pets where Krypto was voiced by Dwayne Johnson, as well as on television in the live-action Titans series alongside Conner Kent"s Superboy. However, Krypto"s debut in a live-action movie is a major first with 2025"s Superman, and it"s going to be very exciting to see how his story will continue. After all, it"s likely that Krypto will also have a role in 2026"s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, seeing as how he was featured in the original comic of the same name.
James Gunn"s Superman releases July 11th, 2025.
